Bengaluru: Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Thursday condemned Prime Minister Narendra Modi led union government’s action of freezing the Congress party’s bank accounts. Calling it an act of, ‘abuse of power and an authoritarian move to punish the opposition parties,” He urged the Election Commission to direct the central government to withdraw its action immediately .

“The BJP government’s malicious intention is to freeze the bank accounts during elections and make the Congress party cry due to lack of funds. The money in our party accounts are collected from common people who are fans of the party and are not collected from big businessmen, but why such action ?,” questioned Siddaramaiah.

Meanwhile, he also stated that the Election Commission’s silence on Bharatiya Janata Party collecting and depositing crores of rupees from businessmen through electoral bonds is dangerous for democracy. He further urged the Commission to immediately take note of this and correct the injustice done to the Congress party.

He further said, “Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP fear defeat. No matter what one brags in public, the inner conscience tells the truth. Narendra Modi knows what the actual situation is even though he claims to win 400 seats. It is because of this fear that the central government resorted of taking the retaliatory action of freezing the Congress party's bank account.”

“Our leader Rahul Gandhi is right when he said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is just a mask behind which there is an evil force that propels the government. This evil power is going to subvert the executive, the legislature and even the judiciary. Only elections have the power to stop this,” he added.
