Naragunda: The Naragunda police reportedly arrested four individuals associated with the Sangh Parivar for the murder of Naragunda resident, Sameer Shahapura (19), and the assault of another youngster in Gadag district.
The arrested accused have been identified as Mallikarjuna alias Muttappa Heeremata, Channabasappa alias Channappa Chandrashekhar Akki, Sakrappa Hanumanthappa Kaakanur, a resident of Vaasavi Kalyana Mantapa, and Sanju Maruthi Nalavadi, the police informed. The accused are reportedly workers of Bajrang Dal.
Incident Details: Sameer Shahapura who ran a hotel establishment in Naragunda had reportedly closed his establishment on Monday night and picked up his friend Shamsheer working in a nearby studio. The duo were returning home after the day’s work on their bike when a gang of 10-15 Sangh Parivar members including Mallikarjuna apprehended their vehicle and began attacking the two youngsters with sharp, lethal weapons.
Sameer and Shamsheer, who were grievously injured during the life-threatening assault were reportedly taken to the KMC hospital in Hubli. However, Sameer breathed his last at the hospital, after the treatments proved to be ineffective, it is learned.
Reportedly, following the attack, the locals had immediately taken the critically injured youngster to the Naragunda public hospital. While receiving primary treatment at the hospital, Sameer had complained to the police about the attack, based on which a case was registered, it is learned. Investigations are reportedly underway.

Berhampur (Odisha) (PTI): Two girls drowned while bathing in a village pond in Odisha's Ganjam district on Tuesday, police said.
The deceased were identified as Pranjali Dora (11), a class 6 student, and Manini Dora (12), a student of class 7, both residents of Patanda village in Digapahandi police station area, a police officer said.
After returning home from school, they went to the village pond to take a bath like every other day. However, they slipped and fell into deep waters. Locals noticed them drowning and tried to rescue them but failed, he said.
Fire brigade personnel from Digapahandi retrieved the girls after a two-hour search and they were rushed to a nearby community health centre, where doctors declared them dead, Digapahandi police station officer-in-charge Kishor Kumar Samal said.
He said the bodies have been handed over to the respective families after conducting post-mortem examinations at MKCG Medical College and Hospital here.
He said unnatural death cases have been registered and an investigation launched.
