Bengaluru, June 4: The Special Investigation Team (SIT) has decided to book the accused arrested in journalist Gauri Lankesh murder case under Prevention of Terrorism Act- 2002 (POTA), it is said.

It is said that the SIT has asked the permission of the court to file cases against Naveen, Praveen and Girish who are under its custody, under the POTA as they have participated in illegal activities and given a blow to the unity and integrity of the country. The main objective of the accused was to kill those who speak against Hindu religion. The SIT officials have asked the permission of the court to book the accused under Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act of the IPC to check such incidents in future, it is said.

Intensifying the interrogation into the incident, the SIT officials have confiscated more than 35 things from the house of Manoj and others who were arrested on charges of hatching a conspiracy to kill rationalist writer KS Bhagawan. Two black colour bags, two SIM cards, four mobile phones, two chargers, 3 passport size photos, two mini diaries of phone numbers, two books written in Hindi and English were recovered.

Davangere: Reports state that two groups engaged in stone pelting at each other during Ganesha idol immersion ceremony in Davangere on Thursday. Two police personnel were injured in the incident.

Few days ago, two groups of youth engaged in verbal altercation regarding raising of a flag for Eid Milad celebration. On account of the clashes, police had heightened security for the Ganesha procession. Despite the additional security, stones were pelted at the procession, sources stated. Inspector Gururaj and constable Raghavendra were injured in the incident. The procession continued after the police brought the situation to control. However, the stone pelting resumed once again as the procession surged forwards.

Security has been tightened up in the area and all shops have been closed down by the police. The two police personnel, who were injured in the stone pelting, are undergoing treatment at a hospital.
