Bengaluru, July 8: A Special Karnataka Control of Organised Crimes Act (KCOCA) Court, conducting the Gauri Lankesh murder trial here, recorded the examination of two more witnesses on Friday, the last day of the trial for July.

The trial will resume on August 8 and will have day-to-day hearing for five days. The trial is scheduled for a week every month.

On Friday, two witnesses -- a local mahajar witness and a peon working in Gauri Lankesh's newspaper office -- were examined by the prosecution and the defence.

The manner in which the bullets embedded in the walls were recovered were recalled and scrutinised in the statements of the witnesses by the advocates.

The peon opened the door of the house after the incident, enabling the police and mahajar witnesses to enter and check the bullets fired.

Allegedly, two bike-borne assailants attacked Gauri Lankesh outside her house on the evening of September 5, 2017. They fired four bullets of which two hit Gauri and the other two hit the walls.

Kolkata (PTI): Ratna Debnath, mother of the raped-murdered RG Kar hospital doctor and the BJP candidate from Panihati, filed her nomination papers on Thursday.

She was accompanied by senior BJP leader and former Union minister Smriti Irani and district party leaders.

Speaking to reporters after filing her nomination, she said her sole aim is to oust the TMC regime in West Bengal, which, she alleged, would ensure women's safety in the state and prevent a recurrence of incidents like the RG Kar case.

Nearly a year and a half after the brutal killing of her 26-year-old daughter inside a locked seminar room of the state-run hospital in August 2024, Debnath agreed to contest the polls on a BJP ticket from her hometown Panihati after being approached by the party "to bring to light the truth behind the crime".

She is pitted against TMC's Tirthankar Ghosh and CPI(M)'s Kalatan Dasgupta.
