Madikeri: “The state government has decided to provide Rs. 7 lakh along with a site for house construction to those who have lost their homes in the Kodagu natural disaster”, informed Minister for Tourism, Sugar and Sericulture Sa Ra Mahesh, who is also the District in-charge minister.

Speaking at a function in K.R. Nagar, he said, Rs 6 lakh would be provided by the state government and one lakh from central disaster relief fund. Also, Rs 1 lakh to repair the damaged house, Rs. 50,000 to purchase necessary items, and Rs 10,000 a month to live in a rented house until their homes are constructed." he said.

Rs. 50,000 each to victim families

The government has decided to compensate Rs 50,000 each for landslides and flood victims in the district.

As per the SDRF/NDRF guidelines, Rs.1,800 for clothing and Rs. 2,000 for essential materials (total Rs. 3,000), can be paid to those whose homes have damaged in natural disasters. But this (amount) is not enough. Therefore we have taken this decision. The victims had requested to increase the compensation during the recent visit of the Chief Minister, Deputy Chief Minister, District in-charge minister, and several other ministers. This decision was taken in response to their request, which has been approved by the Cabinet.

At a cabinet meeting held on Thursday, it has been decided to give more compensation to the victims from the available Rs. 62 crore in Chief Minister's Relief Fund and the NDRF fund.

In all, 1,156 houses have been damaged in the district. of which, 186 destroyed, 530 severely damaged, 404 partially damaged. In all Rs. 5.78 crore is required to pay Rs. 50,000 to each victim family.

Melbourne (PTI): Three Indian students were among 40 people injured in the terrorist attack on Sydney's Bondi Beach in Australia, according to a media report on Tuesday.

Two out of these three students are believed to be receiving treatment in the hospital, The Australia Today news portal reported. 

The names of the Indian students injured during Sunday's attack have not been disclosed yet.

The Indian students sustained injuries during the shooting, and their exact condition has not been formally confirmed yet, it said. 

Naveed Akram, 24, and his father, 50, opened fire on a gathering during the Jewish festival Hanukkah by the Sea celebration.

At least 15 people were killed in the attack, including a 10-year-old child. Five of the injured remain in critical condition, while two injured police officers are in serious but stable condition, it added.

New South Wales Police Commissioner Mal Lanyon said the investigation is expanding as new information emerges, including international travel by the alleged attackers and the discovery of extremist material, the report said.
