Madikeri, September 2: Depressed over hair falling after ‘hair straightening’, a girl plunged into the river and committed suicide at Nittur village in South Kodagu on Sunday.
The girl is identified as Neha Gangamma (19), daughter of Gandangada Prabha and Shaila of Nittur.
Neha was studying her BBA in St. Joseph College in Mysuru and she was staying at a PG at Gokulam. Recently, she had got her hairs straightened at a beauty parlor. Since then, she was experiencing the hair fall and depressed over her friends queries. She even informed her parents that she would not go to college. As the parents have already paid the fee, they have convinced her and sent her to the college.
But on August 28, Neha who had left the PG saying that she would go to college, was missing. PG owner Kariyappa informed the parents and lodged a complaint at Jayalakshmipuram police station.
On Saturday, when Adengada family members of Nittur were transplanting at their fields, some people have gone to Lakshmana Tirtha river for fishing and they have noticed the body floating in the river. They have informed the people who were in the paddy field. When the body was fished out from the river, it was mutilated and could not identify. But with the ring and cloth she wore, it was confirmed that she was Neha Gangamma.
It is suspected that she might have come to Madikeri on August 28 and committed suicide by plunging into the river. But the body was found around 5 km away. Ponnampet police who registered a case are investigating. Her parents have lodged a complaint against the Beauty Parlor of Mysuru.
