Hassan: The Gandasi police have arrested a couple involved in a case where they allegedly killed a beggar and staged a road accident to fraudulently claim life insurance. The accused, identified as Munishamigowda and Shilpa Rani from Chikkakoliga village in Hosakote taluk, were arrested after the discovery of the plot.
On August 12, an unidentified body was found near Gollarahosalli Gate in Araseikere Taluk. The scene also included a car with a punctured tire and a lorry, which had reportedly run over the victim. The body was taken to Hassan District Hospital for identification.
The next day, Shilpa Rani identified the deceased as her husband, Munishamigowda, and claimed the body after a post-mortem. However, during the investigation, the police, noting an injury mark on the neck of the deceased, grew suspicious and launched a deeper probe.
It was later revealed that Munishamigowda, who ran a tire shop in Hosakote, was in debt. To escape his financial burdens, he and his wife allegedly devised a plan to murder a beggar, place the body at the accident scene, and claim it as his own. The police have arrested the couple and are working to identify the victim.
The police have seized both the car and the lorry involved in the incident and are continuing their investigation.
