Kolar: In an incident of alleged honour killing, a man in Totli village of Kolar taluk murdered his teenage daughter for loving a youngster belonging to a different caste. The man father has been taken into custody by the local police.
The deceased youngster is identified as Ramya, a 19-year-old girl from Totli, who was killed by her father Venkatesh Gowda.
Her family had objected that she was dating a youth from a different caste and tried to advise her against continuing the relationship, but Ramya refused to end the relationship. Angered by his daughter's obstinacy, Venkatesh Gowda murdered Ramya on Friday, August 25, after which, the family also conducted the funeral rites of the girl, police have said.
The locals, however, turned suspicious about the cause for Ramya's death and informed the police. The incident is learned to have come to light as Gowda was detained and questioned by the police. Tahsildar Harshavardhan visited Ramya's grave on Sunday. He ordered that her body be exhumed and sent to conduct a post-mortem test.
A case has been registered at the Kolar Rural Police Station, investigation is underway.

Mumbai: A businessman from Powai was allegedly blackmailed by his friend, who demanded ₹80 lakh and sexual favours from his wife. The accused, identified as John Pereira, claimed to possess compromising videos of the businessman and objectionable photos of his wife and her friends.
According to reports, Pereira made WhatsApp calls to threaten the businessman, warning that he would share the images and videos with the victim’s family, friends, and colleagues if his demands were not met. The couple was allegedly harassed for six months, from August 2024 to January 2025.
The businessman eventually approached the police and lodged a complaint at Powai Police Station. A case has been registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), and the matter has been transferred to DN Nagar Police for further investigation. No arrests have been made so far.
