Bengaluru: The Horticulture Department has commenced preparations for the annual Independence Day Flower Show at Lalbagh Botanical Garden, with notable efforts underway, including freshly painted walkways and well-maintained hedges, signalling the onset of the much-anticipated event.

This year’s flower show will be themed around “Kittur Rani Chennamma and Sangolli Rayanna,” as reported by Deccan Herald.

The 218th edition of the flower show will be held over 12 days, from August 7 to 18. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah is scheduled to inaugurate the event on August 7. As part of the festivities, an Ikebana workshop for women and children will be conducted on August 9 at 1:00 PM, featuring sessions on floral arrangements and vegetable carving.

Entry tickets are priced at Rs 80 for adults on weekdays and Rs 100 on weekends. Students above the age of 12 will be charged Rs 30, while uniformed school students will be granted free entry on working days.

“New staff, vehicles, home guards, and volunteers will be deployed to maintain cleanliness throughout the show,” DH quoted M. Jagdeesh, Joint Director of the Horticulture Department, as saying. He added that the flower show will remain eco-friendly with no-plastic zones and enhanced cleaning measures in place, despite an anticipated footfall of 9 to 10 lakh visitors.

Police personnel will be deployed for security, and parking facilities will be arranged. However, only school buses and emergency vehicles will be permitted entry into the park premises.

Bengaluru (PTI): Power bills for consumers under the Bangalore Electricity Supply Company Limited (BESCOM) will go up from May 1, following an order issued by the Karnataka Electricity Regulatory Commission (KERC) on Friday.

The hike comes after KERC allowed the BESCOM to recover a revenue deficit of Rs 2,068 crore incurred in 2024-25, from the consumers.

As a result, for every unit of electricity consumed in 2024-25, the customers will be charged an additional 56 paise, it said.

"BESCOM shall calculate, for each of the active consumers of FY2024-25 the amount to be recovered based on their actual energy consumption during FY2024-25. Such amount shall be recovered during FY 2026-27 in equal monthly instalments, to be called as 'FY25 True up Charges', commencing from the first meter reading date falling on or after 1 May 2026 and concluding with the reading date ending on 30 April 2027," the order said.

"It is further ordered that BESCOM shall maintain a separate head of account, allocated for the purpose, to record the adjustment of the said amount to ensure full recovery of the deficit," it added.

Similarly Chamundeshwari Electricity Supply Corporation Limited (CESC) has also recorded a revenue deficit of Rs 121.71 crore and can collect an additional 15 paisa per unit for consumption in 2024-25, official sources said.
