Bengaluru, May 23: The Education Department has fixed the minimum age limit 5.5 years for admitting a child to the 1st standard in government, aided and unaided schools.
In its circular, the department has said that as per the earlier norms, a child should have been admitted to the 1st standard only after completing 5 years and 10 months. But the department has received a lot of complaints from parents and teachers. During 2015-16 and 2016-17, parents have admitted their children to LKG before completing the minimum age limit of 3 years and 10 months. IN view of this, the children who will not complete 5.10 years by the time of joining 1st standard, would not be eligible to take admission to the 1st standard.
Keeping this in mind, the department has relaxed the age limit and reduced it to 5.5 years, which is applicable only for 2017-18 academic year, stated in the circular.
