Bengaluru: JD(S) party has given away the Bengaluru North Constituency to the Congress party for the upcoming LS Election.
The constituency was bagged by JD(S) in the pre-election alliance deal between the two parties.
On Monday KC Venugopal through a Facebook post shared the information confirming that Congress will contest from the constituency.
He thanked JD(S) supremo H.D Devegowda and his party for the ‘kind gesture’ of giving the seat to Congress. He further added “Together, let us reclaim democracy”.
In a similar post on Twitter, Karnataka Congress also thanked Devegowda and Karnataka CM Kumaraswamy for the gesture and towards the end added “This election for saving constitution and democracy and the alliance will win it”.

Earlier, there were reports that Devegowda would himself contest from the constituency. But after discussions he decided to contest from Tumkuru, which meant there was no suitable candidate in the party to be fielded from Bengaluru North and hence the party decided to give away the seat.
With this JD(S) will now contest on only 7 seats of the state, while Congress will contest on 21 of the 28 seat in the state.
While the Congress is yet to announce candidate from Bengaluru North seat, BJP has fielded former Chief Minister and sitting MP of the constituency DV Sadanand Gowda from the party.

Kolkata (PTI): TMC MP and senior lawyer Kalyan Banerjee on Friday moved the Calcutta High Court questioning the Election Commission's transfer order of several IAS and IPS officers in West Bengal soon after the announcement of assembly polls in the state.
The petitioner named Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar a party respondent in the matter.
Mentioning the matter before a division bench presided by Chief Justice Sujoy Paul, the lawyer prayed for an early hearing of the petition.
The petition, which questions the transfers without consulting the state government before the EC took the decisions, is likely to be heard early next week, a lawyer connected with the matter said.
A large number of senior IAS and IPS officers, including the state's chief secretary, home secretary and director general of police (DGP) were replaced by the Election Commission within hours of announcement of the assembly elections in West Bengal on March 15.
The elections to the 294-member West Bengal assembly will be held in two phases - on April 23 and 29. Votes will be counted on May 4.
