Kalaburagi: A shocking case of honour killing has been reported from Melakunda (B) village in Kalaburagi taluk, where a father allegedly strangled his 18-year-old daughter and set her body on fire for being in love with a man from another caste.
The victim has been identified as Kavita Shankar Kollur (18). Police said the main accused, her father Shankar Kollur, along with two other relatives, is absconding and efforts are on to arrest them.
According to police sources, Kavita was in a relationship with a youngster from another caste in the same village. Despite repeated warnings from her family, she continued the relationship. Enraged over her defiance, the family allegedly murdered her and later attempted to burn the body to destroy evidence.
Investigations revealed that the two communities involved had a history of hostility, and the family feared social disgrace if Kavita’s relationship continued. Police suspect this was the motive behind the killing.
Kalaburagi Police Commissioner Dr. Sharanappa S.D. and senior officials visited the spot and conducted an inquiry. A case has been registered at Farhatabad police station, and further investigation is underway.

Surapura: In a tragic road accident reported from the taluk, six people were burnt alive in a collision between a private bus and a car on the Bidar-Bengaluru Highway near the Shanthapura Cross close to the Thinthani Bridge on Friday morning.
A fire broke out due to the force of the collision, and both vehicles were gutted in the flames.
The bus is learned to have been traveling from Lingasugur to Kalaburagi, and the car was going towards Lingasugur. While none of the passengers in the bus was reportedly endangered in the accident, all six people traveling the car died in the accident and are learned to have burnt in the fire.
The local fire brigade has successfully doused the flames.
Inspector Umesh M and team of the Surapura Police Station is learned to have arrived at the accident spot and conducted an inspection.
The skulls of four people are said to have been found among the debris.
