Kanakapura: A 35-year-old man died in a suspicious manner here, following a row caused by cow vigilantes who blocked a vehicle carrying cattle in the jurisdiction of the Sathanur Police Station limits in Ramanagara district.

The deceased man has been identified as Idrish Pasha of Mandya.

Syed Zahir (40), who had been traveling in the vehicle, was detained by the police, while a third man is absconding.

On Friday night, the cattle were being taken in a goods transport vehicle from Malavalli in Mandya district to Kumangalagere in Tamil Nadu. At around midnight, the vigilantes, led by Puneeth Kerehalli, are learned to have stopped the vehicle and attacked the men in it.

While the men in the vehicle tried to escape, Pasha died as he fell from the vehicle. His body was found by a road in Sathanur village.

Relatives and friends of Pasha staged a protest outside the Sathanur Police Station, demanding the arrest of those responsible for Pasha’s death.

Pasha’s parents have alleged that their son was murdered. They have also accused Puneeth of beating Pasha with a bat, which, they said, resulted in Pasha’s death.

The police, who have filed a case on charges of murder, wrongful restraint, and intentional insult with intent to provoke a breach of the peace, are investigating the matter.

Ramanagara District ASP Suresh, DySP Mohan, Circle Inspectors L Krishna, Mithun Shilpi, Station SI Shadakshari, Bhaskar and police constables visited the site for investigation.

The body of Pasha has been shifted to the Kanakapura hospital for a post mortem. The victim’s parents, however, have also complained of a delay in conducting the post mortem.

Puneeth, leader of the cow vigilantes’ group, is absconding.

Ayodhya, Sep 27: The Food Safety and Drug Administration Department on Friday collected samples of 'elaichi daana' or cardamom seeds being distributed as 'prasad' at the Ram Janmabhoomi temple here and sent them for testing, officials said.

The action was taken following a complaint lodged through the Integrated Grievance Redressal System (IGRS), Assistant Food Commissioner Manik Chand Singh said.

Singh said the samples were procured from Haiderganj, where the cardamom seed offerings are prepared and sent to the Jhansi State Laboratory for comprehensive testing and evaluation.

Prakash Gupta, the officer in charge of the Ram Temple trust, revealed that on average, around 80,000 packets of cardamom seeds are distributed daily as a sacred offering.

Amid a row over the alleged presence of animal fat in laddus at the Tirupati Temple in Andhra Pradesh, the chief priest of the Ram temple here on Thursday questioned the purity of ghee being sold nationwide and said 'prasad' should be prepared under the supervision of temple priests only.
