Bengaluru: In what has come as a major development in the Sathaunur cow-vigilantes attack, images of the main accused Puneeth Kerehalli with top BJP leaders have surfaced on social media platforms triggering further debate in the local political circles.

Claims of Puneeth’s close association with prominent BJP leaders of the state are being made on social media even as the controversy around the late Friday night attack is being widely discussed and condemned on these platforms.

Puneeth’s pictures with BJP National Secretary CT Ravi, MP and BJP Yuva Morcha National President Tejasvi Surya, Yuva Brigade founder Chakravarty Sulibele, Sri Ram Sene Chief Pramod Mutalik, Karnataka Higher Education Minister Ashwath Narayan, Primary and Secondary Education Minister BC Nagesh have all surfaced on social media.

In other pictures, Puneeth is also seen with BJP Tamil Nadu Chief Annamalai and BJP MP Pratap Simha.

On Friday night, self-proclaimed Cow Vigilantes led by Puneeth Kerehalli intercepted vehicles on cattle trader Idrees Pasha near the Sathunur Police Station. Two associates of Idrees were injured after being allegedly beaten by the vigilantes while Idrees was found dead in mysterious condition on Saturday morning a few hundred meters away from the police station.

The family of Idrees has alleged that Puneeth and his thugs chased and assaulted Idrees even after the latter had shown purchase documents of the cattle. They alleged Idrees succumbed to the injuries later. Although the cops have pressed murder charges against Puneeth, the accused is on the run.

The post-mortem report of the Idrees is awaited.

Ayodhya, Sep 27: The Food Safety and Drug Administration Department on Friday collected samples of 'elaichi daana' or cardamom seeds being distributed as 'prasad' at the Ram Janmabhoomi temple here and sent them for testing, officials said.

The action was taken following a complaint lodged through the Integrated Grievance Redressal System (IGRS), Assistant Food Commissioner Manik Chand Singh said.

Singh said the samples were procured from Haiderganj, where the cardamom seed offerings are prepared and sent to the Jhansi State Laboratory for comprehensive testing and evaluation.

Prakash Gupta, the officer in charge of the Ram Temple trust, revealed that on average, around 80,000 packets of cardamom seeds are distributed daily as a sacred offering.

Amid a row over the alleged presence of animal fat in laddus at the Tirupati Temple in Andhra Pradesh, the chief priest of the Ram temple here on Thursday questioned the purity of ghee being sold nationwide and said 'prasad' should be prepared under the supervision of temple priests only.
