Bengaluru: In what came as a surprise to many, BJP Yuva Morcha Secretary Sharath Bachegowda, son of BJP MP Bachegowda on Friday added that he will celebrate Tipu Jayanti, a statement straightaway contradicting with his party’s stand over the issue.

BJP had been opposing the celebration of the Mysore ruler adding that he was a ‘religious bigot’ ever since the Siddaramaiah led Congress government decided to celebrate his Jayanti. BJP continued protesting against the celebration during the JD(s)-Congress coalition government in the state.

In a video that is going viral on social media, Sharath is seen saying that he will celebrate Tipu Jayanti in Bengaluru’s Thammarasanahalli. Political experts believe that there has arisen internal conflict of interest within the saffron party’s cadre over the issue.

Sharath was reportedly speaking at a religious program in Bengaluru when he made the statement, a local youth elated by the statement of Sharath is seen showering currency notes on Sharath.

Dhanbad (Jharkhand) (PTI): At least four workers died after being buried under coal slurry in Jharkhand's Dhanbad district on Saturday, a police official said.

The incident took place at Moonidih coal washery in the command area of Bharat Coking Coal Limited (BCCL).

"Bodies of all four workers were dug out of debris during a rescue operation," Putki police station in-charge Waqar Hussain told PTI.

The incident took place when coal slurry was being loaded into trucks by workers, during which a large chunk of slurry fell and trapped several workers underneath, officials said.

The deceased have been identified as Manik Bauri, Dinesh Bauri, Deepak Bauri, and Hemlal Gope.

Meanwhile, the family members of the deceased and local villagers placed the bodies in front of the washery gate and began a protest.

They demanded compensation, jobs for dependents and action against those responsible for the incident.
