Bengaluru: Congress on late Sunday evening announced its candidate from the Yeshwantpur constituency where the party had not announced candidate for the upcoming by-elections in the state.

The party had announced candidates for 14 constituencies out of 15 constituencies that will go for by-election in the state. The 14 names were announced in two separate lists. Yeshwantpur’s candidate name was not announced in the two lists.

P Nagaraj will now contest the by-election on the party ticket while the BJP has fielded disqualified MLA S T Somashekhar from the constituency.

In the first list Congress had announced names of eight candidates while six other candidates were announced in the second list that was announced on Saturday.

Koppal: Former Legislative Council member Kariyanna H. Sangati (61) passed away at a private hospital in Bengaluru on Monday morning due to multiple organ failure.

He is survived by his wife, three sons, three daughters, and a large number of relatives.

Sangati was a close associate of D. K. Shivakumar. He had contested the 2008 Assembly elections as an independent candidate from Koppal constituency and the 2018 elections from Gangavathi constituency on a JD(S) ticket.

He also served as President of the Koppal Zilla Panchayat and held positions such as President of Kalidasa Educational Institutions and Rajiv Gandhi Yuva Mandal, besides serving in various roles in the district.

Minister for Backward Classes Welfare and Kannada and Culture Shivaraj Tangadagi expressed grief over his demise.

“He was a distinguished member of the Legislative Council and a respected parliamentary figure. His death is painful. May God give his family and followers the strength to bear this grief,” he said in a condolence message.
