Mysuru: Karnataka Congress spokesperson M Laxman has questioned the inaction of the police with regard to MP Pratap Simha, who has declared that he was ready to lead any sort of fight, questioning why the BJP MP has not yet been arrested in spite of such provocative statements.
Addressing a press meet at the Congress Bhavan in the city on Tuesday, Laxman said, "The BJP MP has also been causing problems in the native style celebration of the Dasara festival that Karnataka is known for. Pratap Simha has no authority to order the people not to worship Mahishasura when it is an age-old tradition in the land."
He pointed out the Constitutional rights of the people to worship a deity of their choice. "If the BJP found it faulty to worship Mahishasura, why did the BJP government in Karnataka not get the idol in Mysuru uninstalled?" he said, also asking if the BJP viewed the Asura as a terrorist.
"More than 400 RSS workers from various states are going to participate in the 'Chamundi Chalo' campaign in Mysuru. Since they are known to cause a ruckus by pelting stones and killing people, we will hold the district administration and the police officers responsible for any untoward incident on the occasion," the Congress leader warned.
Laxman, who requested the BJP leaders not to take part or send their children to participate in the campaign in Mysuru, added that the Police Department should get out of its BJP-government mindset and immediately arrest Pratap Simha who is also indulging in anti-Dalit activities.

Washington DC: The White House has reportedly ruled out the use of nuclear weapons against Iran, even as uncertainty continues over ongoing peace negotiations and a deadline set by US President Donald Trump approaches.
Issues bout a possible escalation had increased after US Vice President JD Vance said that the United States has “tools in our toolkit that we so far haven’t decided to use” in dealing with Iran.
His remarks came amid rising tensions and ahead of a deadline linked to peace efforts.
The situation has attracted attention as Trump warned Iran that its “whole civilization will die tonight tonight” if an agreement is not reached by Tuesday at 8 pm.
This statement led to speculation about the possibility of extreme military measures, including a nuclear strike.
Following Vance’s comments, the White House issued a clarification distancing itself from such interpretations. In a post on X, it said, "Literally nothing @VP said here 'implies' this, you absolute buffoons." In a later statement, it added that “only the president knows” what action will be taken regarding Iran.
