Koratagere: A dalit man along with his wife, son and daughter was boycotted from a village in Koratagere Taluk (sub-division), for entering Doddamma temple of Mallekavu village in the Taluk on May 20. The temple authorities have also slapped the dalit man with a fine of Rs 25,000 for cleansing the temple which they alleged was polluted by his entry.

The victim dalit man has been identified as Jagadish who has also filed a complaint with Koratagere Police against the temple authorities but no action has been taken against them as Jagadish continues to face the ruling of ban on entering the village.

Congress block president Somanna was also reportedly present in the meeting held by the villagers who decided to slap the fine and boycott on Jagadish. Interestingly, the constituency is represented by Congress senior leader and Karnataka Deputy CM Dr. G Parameshwara. The presence of Somanna who belongs to same party as DCM has called for a lot of flak in the political circles.

According to the report, Jagadish entered the temple on May 20, when the village was celebrating a fair which also had a grand procession and puja at the temple. When the villagers noticed Jagadish entering the temple with his family, they stopped him and hurled abuses at him followed by imposing the boycott and fine.

Speaking to media, Jagadish also added that he faces threat to his life as the villagers have threatened him of killing him and his family if he tries to enter the village.

The involvement of Congressman in insulting a Dalit in the constituency represented by Dy.CM and senior Congress leader has become talk of the town and has called for severe criticism.

Hyderabad (PTI): Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy met Union Home Minister Amit Shah in Delhi on Wednesday night and urged him to increase the sanctioned strength of IPS officers to the state in view of its growing administrative and security needs.

The two leaders also discussed the recent surrender of several senior Maoist leaders before the Telangana Police and other issues.

"During the meeting, the two leaders discussed the issue of Maoist surrenders and their rehabilitation. The chief minister informed Shah that significant improvements in policing have taken place in Telangana over the past two years," an official release here said.

Highlighting that 591 Maoists have laid down their arms and joined the mainstream of society during this period, the chief minister said the state government was providing them compensation and rehabilitation assistance as per the rules.
