Tumkur: In significant development, former minister Sogadu Shivanna resigned from the primary membership of the BJP after being denied a ticket from the Tumkur city constituency. He formally announced his resignation through an email on Thursday.
Shivanna, who was a senior BJP leader, was a ticket aspirant from the Tumkur city constituency. However, the BJP’s decision to field sitting MLA Jyothi Ganesh from the seat witnessed massive uproar from Shivanna’s supporters.
Meanwhile, Shivanna, who held a meeting with hundreds of his supporters at Makam Kalyana Mantapa in the city on Wednesday, said, "Last time, in 2018, I had withdrawn from the contest because of the words and promise of leader B S Yediyurappa. But those who made the promise are now marginalized. I will resign from the party tomorrow at the insistence of party workers and well-wishers and contest the elections.” All the community leaders and primary workers of the BJP are with me, he said.
