Yadgiri: Local police on Wednesday arrested four people for firing gunshots in the air earlier in the day to welcome Union Minister of State for Chemicals and Fertilisers, New and Renewable Energy, Bhagwanth Khuba.

The incident was reported on Tuesday when the minister arrived at Yaragol village as a part of ‘Jan Ashirwad Yatra’. The party workers and the minister’s supporters welcomed him by firing gunshots in the air.

According to the sources, the country-made rifles that were used in firing the shots were arranged by former Karnataka Minister Baburao Chinchansur.

The Superintendent of Police later informed the media that the accused will be produced before the court and further investigation in the matter will be held.

Ullal: The Mangaluru City Crime Branch police opened fire on an accused in the Kotekar Cooperative Society robbery case on Tuesday near Katungara Gudde in Talapady.

The accused, identified as Kannan Mani, a resident of Chembur Tilak Nagar in Mumbai, was in police custody when the incident occurred. According to officials, he attempted to escape while being taken to the crime scene as part of the investigation.

The firing took place near the Karnataka-Kerala border under the jurisdiction of Ullal police station. Further details on the accused's condition and the ongoing investigation are awaited.
