Bengaluru: The Karnataka Government on Monday announced a 14-day COVID curfew across the state starting Tuesday, April 27.

The move comes on the back of a steep rise in the number of COVID-19 cases in the state.

According to the reports, shops dealing with essential services will be allowed to open between 6 am to 10 am while all other businesses and traffic movement for the public will remain closed.

There will be no restrictions on agricultural and construction activities, but transportation and bus services will remain closed.

Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa also announced that the state will provide free COVID vaccination for people above 18 years of age at government hosptials.

Udupi: Udupi police have successfully arrested a 35-year-old man accused of sexually harassing a five-year-old girl three days ago.

The accused, identified as Muthu, hails from Sulebavi village in Hunagund taluk of Bagalkote district.

The incident occurred on January 23, and a case was registered under the POCSO Act at the Udupi Women’s Police Station. Since the accused was unidentified, the police formed five special teams to trace him.

After examining multiple CCTV camera footages and seeking public assistance, the police finally arrested Muthu on the evening of January 26 near Vadiraj 3rd Cross in the vicinity of Sri Krishna Matha.

Police revealed that the accused was a wanderer without a permanent address in Udupi.
