Belagavi: Health Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao on Monday refuted rumors circulating on social media claiming that eggs contain cancer-causing elements, urging the public not to panic.
Speaking to reporters at Suvarna Soudha, the Minister said the government had taken note of the widespread concern triggered by the claims and had ordered the collection of egg samples from across the state for laboratory testing.
“As a precautionary measure, samples have been collected and sent for testing. There is no reason for fear at this stage,” he said.

Gundu Rao added that if any harmful or cancer-causing substances were found during testing, strict legal action would be initiated against those responsible.
He also recalled that similar rumors had surfaced in the past, and laboratory tests at that time had confirmed that eggs were safe for consumption. “Based on previous experience, we expect there will be no issue this time as well,” he added.
Appealing to citizens not to believe unverified claims on social media, the Minister urged people to remain calm and await official test results.
