Bengaluru: The Karnataka RTI Activists State Committee on Sunday wrote a letter to Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai and other top officials of the state demanding immediate police protection for social activist HM Venkatesh after the recent attack on his life on April 21, under Kodigehally Police Station limits here.

In the letter the committee while bringing to notice of the CM and other officials, the incident that took place on April 21, states "At this juncture the victim came to know that the person involved in the above episode of offence has been arrested and released on Station bail without enquiring in detail about the attempt to murder".

"As he has been attacked repeatedly since then he requires immediate protection for his life as his life is endangered. He has already submitted various request before the authorities seeking Police Protection for two years.However, no action appears to have been taken to provide police protection till today. We therefore sincerely urge to provide appropriate police protection at the earliest," it further added.

"H M Venkatesh is a Social Activist actively engaged in social activities and raising his voice against corruption in pursuit of justice in the public interest. He has filed several Public Interest Litigations before the Hon’ble High Court of Karnataka. In the recent past, he is actively engaged in exposing various irregularities in Public Administration of high profile people," the letter added. 

The letter also urged the Chief Minister to direct concerned police authorities to investigate the April 21 incident in detail in the interest of justice and equity.

Mirzapur (UP), Oct 6: An assistant development officer (agriculture) in the district was suspended for allegedly entering the Vindhyavasini temple wearing shoes and neglecting his official duties during the Navratri festival.

According to an official statement, Prateek Kumar Singh, who was also serving as a Sector Magistrate during the festival, was caught by city MLA Ratnakar Mishra while visiting the temple.

Mishra reprimanded Singh for his inappropriate behaviour and forced him to leave the temple premises, the statement said.

Upon learning about the incident, Mirzapur district magistrate directed the suspension of the ADO. Acting on the DM's instructions, Deputy Director (Agriculture) Vikas Patel suspended Singh.

Singh, who was on duty, visited the temple wearing shoes, violating temple protocol and neglecting his responsibilities, according to the statement issued by the Information Department.
