Hebri: The staff of a KSRTC bus lent timely help to a young lady passenger who fell ill during the journey from Shivamogga to Udupi on Monday, by diverting the bus to the Hebri Community Health Centre (CHC) and ensuring the girl was treated there.

The girl, Suraksha, who had climbed the bus at Megaravalli, fell severely ill when they were traveling in the Agumbe Ghat area on the way to Udupi. Acting immediately on finding that a passenger had fallen ill, bus driver Tharesh and conductor Wasim Desai took the bus to the Health Sub Centre at Someshwara.

As Suraksha’s health condition failed to improve after the first aid received at the health centre, she was then taken to Hebri CHC, with the other passengers cooperating in the humanitarian efforts of the KSRTC employees and helping the girl.

The matter was also brought to the notice of Hebri Police, who ensured there was no disruption in the journey of the bus from Someshwara to Hebri.

Suraksha, who is currently being treated at the Hebri CHC, is learned to be recovering. She reportedly was studying at Muniyalu, staying at her uncle’s house.

Suraksha’s mother Rekha has expressed her heartfelt gratitude to driver Tharesh and conductor Wasim Desai for saving her daughter’s life.

Hebri Sub-inspector Mahesh TM has appreciated the duo for the timely and humanitarian efforts in helping the girl. He also said that the work of Tharesh and Desai saving a life was a model for others in society.

Bareilly (UP), Nov 24: Three people died when their car fell into the Ramganga river from a partially constructed bridge here on Sunday, police said, adding that they suspect the driver was misled by its navigation system into taking the unsafe route.

The accident occurred around 10 am on the Khalpur-Dataganj road when the victims were travelling from Bareilly to Dataganj in the Badaun district, they said.

"Earlier this year, floods had caused the front portion of the bridge to collapse into the river, but this change had not been updated in the system," Circle Officer Ashutosh Shivam said.

The driver was using a navigation system and did not realise that the bridge was unsafe, driving the car off the damaged section, the police said.

There were no safety barriers or warning signs on the approach to the damaged bridge, leading to the fatal accident, Shivam said.

Upon receiving information, police teams from Faridpur, Bareilly and Dataganj police station rushed to the spot. They recovered the vehicle and the bodies from the river, Shivam added.

The circle officer said that bodies had been sent for post-mortem. Further investigation into the matter is underway.
