Bengaluru: According to a The New Indian Express report, the Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation which is exploring cashless payments alternatives, is determined to introduce UPI-based payments systems in its buses in a bid to enhance the convenience for its passengers.

Meanwhile, the Northwest Karnataka Road Transport Corporation (NWKRTC) has initiated UPI-based payments to streamline the ticket purchasing process, on a pilot basis program, with the potential of extending this service to all KSRTC buses after exploring various alternatives.

The pilot run of the programme was kickstarted on Friday (September 01), enabling passengers to scan the QR code and make payments.

Meanwhile, quoting a statement of KSRTC MD Anbu Kumar, The New Indian Express wrote, “ We are studying the options. NWKRTC has already started the UPI payment option on a pilot basis. We will learn from their experience and then decide on introducing the same with KSRTC.”

Although there has been a great demand from the public for bus corporations to introduce UPI-based payment options to improve the travel experience, implementation of the same was hindered owing to  issues such as low internet connectivity and technical errors.
