Belgaum: A 24-year-old youngster was brutally murdered in Belgaum under the jurisdiction of Belagavi Railway Police Station on Tuesday, 28 September.

The deceased youngster has been identified as Arbaaz Aptab Mulla (24), a resident of Khanapur.

According to the complaint filed by Arbaaz’s mother, a Ram Sena activist Maharaj along with two others for the murder of her son. The mother Nazeema Shaikh, has named two other in her complaint including the father of Shweta, a girl who her son was allegedly having affair with.

Shaikh claims this to be a case where the family of the girl got her son brutally killed for being in an inter-religious relationship. She also alleged that Arbaaz was getting threatening calls from Maharaj and others against his friendship with Shweta.

Nazima also stated that Shweta was asking Arbaaz to break up with her saying she was getting marriage proposals from rich families.

According to Nazima, Maharaj called Arbaaz and her to a secluded place last Sunday and threatened them asking them to delete all pictures and contact details of Shweta and demanded money from them.

“He said that he has around 40 cases registered against him and that he is not bothered about getting another one registered against him. He said he would pour acid on our faces if we failed to give money. I had not taken cash with me so I told him I will pay using UPI but he did not agree. After pleading for several minutes we managed to come out of there” Nazima said.

“On Tuesday I had gone out of station for some paperwork related to my travel plans to the UK where my daughter stays. When I returned home, Arbaaz was missing from home. And then I get a call from a random person adding that they found my son’s phone. Later we found his body, he was killed. His hands and legs were tied and was brutally murdered” a grieving Nazima told Vartha Bharati over a phone call.

“Some people say it was a suicide because he was madly in love with the girl. But if it was a suicide how were his hands and legs tied?” Nazima questions while demanding justice for her son.

Based on her complaint, Maharaj, Shweta’s father Kumbar, and another person named Birje have been named in the FIR by the cops, but no arrests or action has yet been initiated against the three accused.

Vartha Bharati tried getting more details about the police action in the case and allegations of lapses from their side while the investigation, but the Railway Police SHO refrained from commenting on the matter citing “Technicalities” of the investigation. He said they will give details of the case and investigations shortly.

Mumbai (PTI): Veteran screenwriter Salim Khan suffered a brain haemorrhage which has been tackled, is on ventilator support as a safeguard and stable, doctors treating him said on Wednesday, a day after he was admitted to the Lilavati Hospital here.

The 90-year-old, one half of the celebrated Salim-Javed duo which scripted films such as "Sholay", "Deewar" and "Don" with Javed Akhtar, is in the ICU and recovery might take some time given his age.

"His blood pressure was high for which we treated him and we had to put him on a ventilator because we wanted to do certain investigations. Now the ventilator was put as a safeguard so that his situation doesn't get worse. So it is not that he is critical," Dr Jalil Parkar told reporters.

"We did the investigations that were required and today we have done a small procedure on him, I will not go into the details. The procedure done is called DSA (digital subtraction angiography). The procedure has been accomplished, he is fine and stable and shifted back to ICU. By tomorrow, we hope to get him off the ventilator. All in all, he is doing quite well," he added.

Asked whether he suffered a brain haemorrhage, the doctor said, "Unko thoda haemorrhage hua tha, which we’ve tackled. No surgery is required.

As concern over Khan's health mounted, his children, including superstar Salman Khan and Arbaaz Khan, daughter Alvira, and sons-in-law Atul Agnihotri and Aayush Sharma, have been seen outside the hospital along with other well-wishers. His long-time partner Akhtar was also seen coming out of the hospital.

Khan, a household name in the 70s and 80s, turned 90 on November 24 last year. It was the day Dharmendra, the star of many of his films, including "Sholay", "Seeta aur Geeta" and "Yaadon Ki Baraat", passed away.

Hailing from an affluent family in Indore, Khan arrived in Mumbai in his 20s with dreams of stardom. He was good looking and confident he would make a mark in the industry as an actor. But that did not happen. And then, after struggling for close to a decade and getting confined to small roles in films, he changed lanes.

He worked as an assistant to Abrar Alvi and soon met Akhtar to form one of Hindi cinema's most formidable writing partnerships. They worked together on two dozen movies with most of them achieving blockbuster status.

Other than "Sholay", "Deewar" and "Don", Khan and Akhtar also penned "Trishul", "Zanjeer", "Seeta Aur Geeta", "Haathi Mere Saathi", "Yaadon Ki Baarat" and "Mr India".
