Bengaluru: Karnataka Health Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao asserted that every organisation must prioritise the mental health and well-being of their employees by providing support for individuals struggling with conditions such as depression.

Speaking at the World Mental Health Day program organised by the State Mental Health Authority at the Bangalore Medical College and Research Institute on Monday, Rao stated that people battling suicidal thoughts often remain unaware of the resources available to help them, and many hesitate to seek assistance.

Despite government efforts to raise awareness about the importance of mental health treatment, Rao pointed out that stigma around these issues still persists.

“It is possible to overcome mental health-related issues. There are adequate measures and medicines to treat psychological problems. Through the State Mental Health Authority, we have established the Tele-Manas helpline, Mathru Chaitanya perinatal mental health services and Mano Chaitanya super Tuesday clinics to normalise treatments for mental health issues,” he was quoted as saying by Deccan Herald.

Rao added that the World Health Organisation (WHO) recognised the importance of the workplace as a new determinant of mental health this year.
