Kumaraswamy lashes out at Cong, others for 'chakravyuha' against his son in Mandya
Bengaluru, Apr 5: Karnataka Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy Friday accused coalition partner Congress and others of hatching a 'chakravyuha', a deadly formation in epic Mahabharata, to defeat his son and JDS nominee Nikhil in Mandya Lok Sabha seat.
Bringing to fore again deep fissures in the ruling front, the JDS leader lashed out at Congress and others for 'colluding' with independent candidate and multilingual film actress Sumalatha, wife of late Congress leader and actor Ambareesh, in Mandya, instead of working for Nikhil.
"There are developments that have gone out of hand in Mandya. The independent candidate has got widespread support.
She may appear as an independent but she has got the support of Congress, BJP and Raitha Sangha (farmers' association). All of them have joined hands to trample JD(S)," he told reporters in Chikmagalur.
He was replying to the queries on JD(S) supremo and his father H D Deve Gowda's remarks Thursday that things have gone out of hand in Mandya, which goes to polls on April 18, and even former chief minister and Congress strongman Siddaramaiah cannot reverse it.
Kumaraswamy said "He (Gowda) has only uttered the facts... Somewhere some Chakravyuha has been hatched but the people of Mandya, those toiling populace, have already taken a decision (to elect Nikhil)," the chief minister said.
He added he was making the statement clearly without hiding anything.
'Chakravyuha' is a deadly battle formation narrated in the epic Mahabharata in which Arjuna's son Abhimanyu was trapped and killed by the Kauravas.
Reacting to Kumaraswamy's outbursts, Sumalatha told reporters that Congress "workers are indeed with me".
Seeking to turn the tables on the chief minister for his 'Chakravyuha' attack, she said what he would call "activities of the entire government machinery, ministers and MLAs" allegedly aimed at defeating her.
"Which Vyuha Is that?. They (JD-S) are playing dirty tricks.They have fielded three other candidates with the name Sumalatha against me. Those three candidates are wearing glasses, necklace and attire likeme in the photograph submitted in their affidavit," she claimed.
The JD(S) leadership always considered Mandya as its citadel given the huge population of dominant Vokkaliga community, which Deve Gowda belongs to, in the constituency, represented by Ambareesh for three terms.
However, upsetting the equations, Sumalatha decided to contest the election from Mandya as an independent after failing to get ticket from the Congress.
The BJP is backing Sumalatha instead of fielding its candidate.
There is widespread resentment within the local Congress over JDS being alloted the seat under an electoral arrangement between the coalition partners.
Disgruntled JD(S) leaders are also reportedly working against the third generation of the mighty Deve Gowda clan.
Deve Gowda's another grandson Prajwal Revanna, son of minister H D Revanna, is contesting from Hassan, where also a similar situation prevails with the Congress at the grassroot level openly expressing opposition to the JDS.

CBSE announces assessment scheme for Class 10 board exams cancelled in Middle East

New Delhi (PTI): The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has announced a detailed assessment scheme for Class 10 exams in the Middle East region which were cancelled amid escalating West Asia conflict, according to officials.
The exams were cancelled following a critical review of the prevailing situation across Bahrain, Iran, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the UAE.
According to CBSE Examination Controller Sanyam Bhardwaj, examinations scheduled from February 17 to 28 were conducted successfully. During this period, six academic subjects, including Mathematics, English and Science, were completed. Additionally, 16 language papers and 22 skill subject examinations were also conducted.
The board has divided candidates into five categories -- students who appeared in all examinations, students who appeared in four examinations, students who appeared in three examinations, students who appeared in two examinations and private students registered under the compartment category.
"The results of students who appeared for all exams will be declared based on their performance in the examinations. The result of students who appeared in four subjects will be declared based on the average of the marks obtained in the best three performing subjects for the subjects whose examinations have not been conducted," Bhardwaj said.
"The result of students who appeared in three subjects will be declared based on the average of the marks obtained in the best two performing subjects for the subjects whose examinations have not been conducted," he added.
The examination controller explained that very few students have appeared in the examinations in only two subjects.
"Their results will be declared based on the average of the marks of two subjects in the remaining subject," he said.
The results of Middle East students will be declared along with the rest of the students. Students will be allowed to improve their performance through the second board examinations according to policy.
