Kundapur: Leopard roaming near Markodu village trapped by forest officers

Kundapur: Forest officers have succeeded in capturing a leopard, which was roaming near Markodu under Koni Gram Panchayat the past few days, causing concern among the locals.
The local residents who reportedly heard sounds of the roaming leopard, informed the Forest Department officers of the presence of the leopard in the area where the Anganwadi and houses were situated.
Taking action in the matter, the forest officers visited the place on Thursday and set up the trap near the anganawadi in Markodu in preparation of the operation to capture the leopard.
A leopard, which is estimated to be two to three years old, was trapped on Friday. Local citizens visited the anganawadi in hundreds to take a look at the leopard before the forest officers took away the leopard. The officers have said that the animals will be released into a reserve forest area.
Kundapur Range Forest Officer (RFO) Raghavendra, Deputy Range Forest Officer (DRFO) Vinay, Patrol Forest Guards Malathi and Ashok and Forest Inspector Somashekar, with the local residents, were a part of the operation.

IPL betting racket busted in Goa; four held
Panaji (PTI): Police have busted an Indian Premier League (IPL) betting racket operating out of a house in South Goa, arresting four persons, an official said on Sunday.
A team from Verna police raided the premises in the Shindolim area of Sancoale village near Vasco on Saturday night and caught the accused red-handed while accepting bets on the cricket match between Chennai Super Kings and Delhi Capitals, he said.
The accused, Pranjal Tiwari (23), Amar Dawda (33), Shashank Kumar Sahu (19) and Sandeep Singh (23), hailed from Uttar Pradesh and Chhattisgarh, and were staying in a rented premises.
As many as 10 mobile phones, two laptops, a tablet, an internet router with a signal receiver and cash worth Rs 37,000 were seized from the house, the official said, adding that a case has been registered under the Goa, Daman and Diu Public Gambling Act.
