Madikeri, November 10: As the district administration conducted the Tipu Jayanti amidst stiff opposition from political parties and various other organisations, the BJP MLAs and workers and Sangh Parivar activists stated protest opposing the celebration. Citing the law and order problem, the police arrested the agitators.
Activists of Vishwa Hindu Parishat, Bajrang Dal offered Pooja at Omkareshwara temple in memory of Kuttappa. Later, when they tried to enter the premises of the Fort where Tippu Jayanthi was to be held, the police arrested the agitators near the temple.
Meanwhile, MLA Appachu Ranjan, MLC Sunil Subramani, Zilla Panchayat president BA Harish and others who staged protest were also arrested. Later, the district administration conducted the Tipu Jayanthi programme. As the Tipu Jayanthi attracted opposition, the district administration beefed up the security arrangements.

Bengaluru: Karnataka High Court has issued an interim stay on the FIR against Sringeri legislator DN Jeevaraj, who is accused of vote rigging.
A vacation bench consisting of Justice V Sreeshananda heard on Tuesday the BJP MLA’s plea urging the HC to quash the case against him.
After hearing the arguments, the judge granted an interim stay on the case against Jeevaraj.
The hearing of the case has been adjourned to Thursday, May 7.
