Bengaluru: Congress party's leader Mallikarjun Kharge has clarified his earlier remark about Prime Minister Narendra Modi, stating that his comments were not directed towards the PM personally but towards the BJP's ideology. Kharge stated that the ideology of the BJP is like a snake, and if someone tries to touch it, their death is certain.

Kharge made the clarification during a press conference on Thursday. He said that he did not make any personal comments against the Prime Minister and that he only criticized the BJP's ideology. He also said that the BJP's ideology was divisive and was causing unrest in the country.

"It wasn't meant for PM Modi, what I meant was BJP's ideology is 'like a snake'. I never said this personally for PM Modi, what I said was their ideology is like a snake and if you try to touch it, your death is certain," Kharge said.

Kharge's statement had come in response to a question about his recent comment on the Prime Minister. Earlier in the day he had made the controversial "snake" remark, which had sparked controversy.

Several BJP leaders condemned Kharge's comments and demanded an apology from him. However, the Congress leader stood by his statement and said it was not a personal attack on the Modi.

The Karnataka Assembly elections are scheduled to take place on May 10, and both the Congress and the BJP are campaigning aggressively to win the polls. The BJP is hoping to retain power in the state, while the Congress is looking to make a comeback.
