Chikkamagaluru: Identifying the current issues people of the Malnad region are facing due to COVID-19, Malnad Gulf Association (MGA) distributed 1420 ration kits in an effort to support the people of the community.

Since 2014 Malnad Gulf Association, a non-profit organization is operating from Saudi Arabia with sole purpose of helping needy people of the community. Currently, association has more than 10 branches including in Chikkamagaluru, Hassan, Coorg, Shivamogga, South & North Karnataka. The association has been working for over 6 years to track & support unemployed sector, poor, widows along with that association is focusing on providing students support to pursue higher education, emergency medical relief & blood donation camps.

In a recent effort, association has also distributed personal protective equipment to over 10 government hospitals in Chikkamagaluru to safeguard health care professionals who are fighting COVID-19 in the front line.

Currently, in Saudi Arabia association has set up COVID 19 helpline & online campaign for the safe return of people with medical emergencies, pregnant women & unemployed members of the community.

Ramadan Ration Kit 2020 distribution in Chikmagalore district was headed by Yousef Haji, Akram Haji in Mudigere, Ibrahim Shafi in Balehonnuru, Abdul Waheed in Magundi & Abdulrahman in Koppa. In Coorg district, Noushad Jannath, in Shivamogga Mohiuddin, in Hassana district Parvez Pasha took the lead to distribute the ration kits.

The joint press meet was attended by the dignitaries of MGA central committee Basheer Balupete, honorary president, Sharif Kalasa, President, & Rashid Ahmed, General Secretary of the central committee.

Mangaluru: Two girl students drowned while bathing near the Kolyadakatta dam area of the Gundya river on Friday evening here in the Kadaba Taluk of the district.

The deceased have been identified as Arpita (15) and Sunita (21), both residents of Vimalagiri in Kutrupadi village.

According to reports, five girl students had visited the river along with their friends as it was a holiday. While bathing in the river, the two students reportedly entered a deeper portion of the water without realising the depth and began drowning.

Those accompanying them tried to rescue the duo, but were unsuccessful, leading to the tragedy.

After receiving information about the incident, Kadaba Police Station personnel visited the spot and conducted an inspection. The bodies were later recovered with the help of local residents.
