Malpe: The body of a 37-year-old man who had been missing for two days was found in a well on a farm in Thenkanidiyur on Tuesday evening. The deceased, identified as Ramesh Sherigar from Badanidiyur village, was an employee of the well-known jewellery brand ‘Abharan’ in Udupi. 

Sherigar is suspected to have died by suicide. On Sunday night, he reportedly told his family that he was going for a walk as he felt uneasy at home. Before leaving, he handed his mobile phone to his sister. When he did not return, his family grew concerned and filed a missing complaint with the Malpe Police. 

At around 7 p.m. on Tuesday, his body was discovered in a well behind Devikatte at Garadimajalu in Thenkanidiyur. Social activist Nithyananda Olakadu and swimming expert Eshwar Malpe helped retrieve the body from the water. Malpe Police have registered a case and launched an investigation. 

Sherigar’s body has been shifted to the District Hospital at Ajjarakadu for a post-mortem examination.

Panaji (PTI): Police have busted an Indian Premier League (IPL) betting racket operating out of a house in South Goa, arresting four persons, an official said on Sunday.

A team from Verna police raided the premises in the Shindolim area of Sancoale village near Vasco on Saturday night and caught the accused red-handed while accepting bets on the cricket match between Chennai Super Kings and Delhi Capitals, he said.

The accused, Pranjal Tiwari (23), Amar Dawda (33), Shashank Kumar Sahu (19) and Sandeep Singh (23), hailed from Uttar Pradesh and Chhattisgarh, and were staying in a rented premises.

As many as 10 mobile phones, two laptops, a tablet, an internet router with a signal receiver and cash worth Rs 37,000 were seized from the house, the official said, adding that a case has been registered under the Goa, Daman and Diu Public Gambling Act.
