Maluru, August 01: A 10th standard girl student who was on her way back home from the school was killed near Maluru railway station on Wednesday evening.

The girl is identified as the student of BGS School and resident of Indira Nagar in the taluk. After going home along with her friend from the school, a stranger has allegedly kidnapped her. But her friend who ran away to her house after the incident did not inform anybody about the issue, it is said.

The body of the girl has scratches and head injuries. The locals suspected that she was raped and killed later. But the police did not reveal anything so far. When she did not come home even after late in the evening, her father and locals have searched her. But they found her body at a bush near the railway station. Her body was taken to the government hospital for postmortem. As soon as the news spread, people and relatives thronged the hospital. Later, locals and organizations staged a protest in front of the hospital, blocked the road. As a result, the traffic movement was hampered for a while. After the police who rushed to the spot, promised of arresting the accused, the locals called off their protest.

Thrissur (Kerala) (PTI): At least five people, including two children, were killed and as many persons injured when a truck ploughed into the roadside tent where they were sleeping in this central Kerala district early on Tuesday, police said.

The victims, nomads living in tents set up along the highway, were struck by the truck on a national highway in Nattika, under the Valapad police station limits, at 4.30 am, they said.

The injured have been admitted to Thrissur Government Medical College Hospital, with the condition of two individuals reported as serious, police said.

Among the deceased are two children, aged one-and-a-half and four years. Two women were also killed.

The driver and cleaner of the vehicle have been taken into custody, police added.
