Bnegaluru: A 29-year-old man named Harish has been arrested for the alleged murder of his wife, Bharathi, in Kolur village near Doddaballapur. The disturbing incident unfolded after Bharathi refused to return to Harish, just a few days after they had eloped with a relative. The most distressing part is that their five-year-old daughter witnessed the entire horrifying act. After committing the crime, Harish took their daughter with him and fled to his village.

According to reports, Harish strangled Bharathi and hit her on the head with a blunt object in their rental house on Wednesday evening.

The murder came to light when Bharathi's lover, Gangadhar, grew worried as she did not answer his calls. Gangadhar asked his friend Suresh to check on her. Upon arriving at the scene, Suresh discovered Bharathi's lifeless body in a pool of blood. He immediately informed the landlord, Ramanjinappa, and called the police.

Gangadhar, who was informed about Bharathi's death, rushed to the location but was detained by villagers who suspected his involvement. The police arrived and took Gangadhar into custody for questioning. During the investigation, Gangadhar expressed his belief that Harish was responsible for the crime.

Based on Gangadhar's statement, the police swiftly apprehended Harish. Shockingly, Harish confessed to the murder, revealing that he and Bharathi had been married for ten years. He discovered Bharathi's affair with Gangadhar and had warned them to end their relationship. However, Bharathi eloped with Gangadhar during Harish's recent visit to his brother.

Harish tried to convince Bharathi to come back home, but she refused and expressed her desire to continue living with Gangadhar. Frustrated and angry, Harish committed the unthinkable act.

Ramanjinappa, the landlord of the rental house, shared that Bharathi and Gangadhar had rented the property just 12 days before the tragedy. Bharathi introduced Gangadhar as her husband, and she rarely ventured outside.

Nagpur (PTI): The Congress will have to face consequences if it doesn't allow NCP president and Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Sunetra Pawar to win the Baramati assembly bypoll unopposed, said minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule on Thursday.

The party’s “downfall” will start from Baramati, he said, stressing that the people of Baramati and Maharashtra wish that she is elected unopposed, said the BJP leader.

The April 23 bye election was necessitated after the tragic death of deputy CM Ajit Pawar, who headed the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), in a plane crash in Baramati on January 28. After his death, his wife Sunetra became the party president.

The NCP, BJP and the Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena are partners in the ruling Mahayuti alliance in the state.

“The Congress will face consequences if it doesn’t let Sunetra win unopposed from Baramati. Its downfall will start from Baramati if it doesn’t withdraw its candidate,” Bawankule told reporters in Nagpur.

Amid efforts to ensure an unopposed contest, the Congress has fielded advocate Akash More for the bypoll.

The party had said that it would withdraw from the contest only if an FIR were registered in Ajit Pawar’s death in the Baramati plane crash.

Replying to another question, Bawankule said the BJP’s performance will be more robust in Assam and Kerala elections compared to the last assembly polls in these states. Assembly polls are being held in a single phase in Assam, Kerala and Puducherry on Thursday.

“These elections will once again show Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership commanding support among the people,” he said.
