Kalaburagi: The city police on Sunday night shot a man who had been walking on the streets near Kalaburagi Super Market here brandishing a knife and threatening people.
Abdul Jaffer Saab, who was injured in the foot in the shooting, has been admitted to hospital.
Following his threats to the people, the police warned him not to go about displaying a weapon and creating an air of fear. Wahid Kotwal, sub-inspector at the Chowk Police Station, also ordered Abdul Jaffer to surrender, but the man ignored the warnings, said police sources.
The city police shot at him as a precautionary measure, they added.
A native of Mumbai, Abdul Jaffer is learned to have moved to the city recently.

The first round of direct talks between the United States and Iran, held in Islamabad, has concluded, Al Jazeera reported citing sources close to the development.
According to the report, following the discussions, delegations from both sides agreed to exchange written documents, a move aimed at ensuring clarity and consensus on the understandings reached during the meeting.
Both the Iranian and US delegations arrived in Islamabad on Saturday, April 11, amid high security for the peace talks.
