Bengaluru: An employee of a granite company reportedly had a narrow escape from death after an unidentified assailant slit his throat with a knife near a petrol bunk in Vinayaka Nagar, Kamakshipalya, early Friday morning.
The assault victim, Narayana (38), is said to have been returning from the factory after completing his night shift, when he was stopped near the petrol bunk and attacked, according to a report in Deccan Herald.
The assailant is learned to have fled from the spot while a severely injured and heavily bleeding Narayana collapsed on the road.
Passersby, who noticed him, came to his help by immediately calling emergency helpline Namma 112. The Hoysala patrol unit and Kamakshipalya policemen were informed by the staff at the control room and Assistant Sub-inspector Kemparaju and constable Harish Kumar are said to have rushed to the crime scene.
Narayana was taken to a nursing home in Sunkadakatte for emergency medical care. The doctors have stressed on the importance of the role played by both timely intervention and immediate medical care given in saving Narayana’s life.
A senior police officer has reportedly said that Narayana is being treated in hospital and his health condition is stable.
Speaking about the assault on Narayana, the officer said that investigation is on to identify and find the attacker as well as the motive behind the attack.
The officer added that a case of attempt to murder has been registered and an investigation team is probing the matter. Reasons like robbery and old rivalry with Narayana’s former co-workers are being considered for investigation. The officer said that the team is waiting for Narayana to recover as he would provide more information on the cause for attack.
A special team has obtained and is checking the CCTV camera footage from near the crime scene to find the accused, the officer added.

Beirut: Lebanon’s has moved to underline its independent position in ongoing regional developments, amid attempts to link the country to the broader conflict involving Iran, the United States and Israel.
President Joseph Aoun, while announcing the appointment of former US ambassador Simon Karam as Lebanon’s representative in talks with Israel, made it clear that Karam would be the sole representative for Lebanon and that there would be no substitute.
The move comes in response to what the Lebanese officials see as efforts by Iran to tie Lebanon’s situation to the wider regional conflict. Iran had indicated that there would be no ceasefire involving the US, Israel and Iran unless it also included a ceasefire in Lebanon.
Some groups, including Hezbollah and its supporters, had expressed support for linking the situations, citing concerns that the Lebanese government has limited leverage in negotiations with Israel. Lebanon is not formally a party to the conflict, and its army is considered weak.
However, others, including Prime Minister Nawaf Salam, have opposed this approach. They view Iran’s stance as an attempt to influence Lebanon’s internal affairs and see it as undermining the country’s sovereignty.
Officials backing the government’s position say the move is aimed at reaffirming Lebanon’s sovereignty and ensuring that decisions about peace and ceasefire within the country are not dictated externally.
They also see it as a safeguard, so that any breakdown in talks between the US, Israel and Iran does not automatically lead to renewed conflict in Lebanon.
