Mandya, October 02: A truck mowed down four pedestrians and nine others sustained severe injuries when it ran over them on Guttalu road here on Tuesday.
The deceased are identified as Congress leader and CMC former member Rafiq (40), Girijamma (48), Rahul (21) and Shashank (18). The injured are identified Rajesh (38), Prasanna Kumar (33), Syed (14), Sadath Ali (39), Rizwan (30), Puttaswamy (62), Kokila (38) , Natesh and Venkatesh.
The condition of Natesh and Venkatesh was serious and they were rushed to Bengaluru for more treatment and the rest are being treated at MIMS.
The tender coconut laden lorry was going towards Gulbarga from KM Dosti through Mandya. When the driver lost his control, the lorry ran over pedastrians and rammed to an electric pole. The lorry ran over bike, auto and pedestrians and many ran helter skelter. The police and the local people admitted the injured to the hospital. When the accident news spread, hundreds of people gathered on the spot due to which traffic was hampered for some time.
District Minister CS Puttaraju, local MLA M Shrinivas visited the hospital and consoled the family members. SP Shivaprakash Devaraj , ADC Lavanya, other police officers visited the spot. Traffic police registered a case.

Chasing 218 for a win, the Royals were all out for 159 in 19.2 overs.
Shimron Hetmyer top-scored for RR with a 32-ball 52 while captain Sanju Samson chipped in with a 28-ball 41.
For GT, Prasidh Krishna took three wickets while Rashid Khan and Sai Kishore got two each.
Earlier, Sai Sudharsan struck a breezy 82 to help GT post 217 for 6.
Sudharsan's 53-ball innings was studded with eight fours and three sixes, while M Shahrukh Khan and Jos Buttler made 36 each.
