Davangere: The Jagaluru police have arrested a man who allegedly strangled his daughter to death in an honour killing bid.

The arrested has been identified as Kalleshappa (56), who is accused of killing his daughter Anita (24), both residents of Bistuwali village in Jagaluru taluk in Davanagere district.

Anita was having an affair with a boy from a different religion. It has been alleged that Kalleshappa mercilessly strangled Anita to death due to this affair.

Though the incident occurred two days ago, it came to the fore lately. Jagaluru police have arrested Kalleshappa and his brother.

DySP Nagesh Ital visited the spot and launched the investigation.

Bengaluru: The State Moon Sighting Committee has decided that Eid-ul-Fitr will be celebrated on March 21 across the state.

Meanwhile, in Dakshina Kannada, Udupi and Bhatkal , Eid-ul-Fitr will be observed on Friday, March 20, following the sighting of the Shawwal crescent moon on Thursday evening.

The moon sighting marks the conclusion of Ramadan and the beginning of Shawwal, heralding Eid prayers and celebrations across the region.
