Bengaluru, November 27: Water Resources Minister DK Shivakumar said that former MP and actress Ramya was unable to attend the funeral of former minister and senior actor Ambareesh due to her leg injury.

Speaking to reporters at the Vidhana Soudha here on Tuesday, the Minister said that she was suffering due to fracture of her leg and she was not in a position to move. So she did not attend the funeral of Ambareesh, he added.

He would thank the people of the state for the peaceful and successful funeral procession of Ambareesh. The state government has efficiently handled its responsibilities. The coalition government has taken the decision of taking the mortal remains of Ambareesh to Mandya for last darshan. Later, people from all parties and artistes were allowed for the darshan. Though some people were unable to get the chance of having darshan, the final procession was peaceful. As the government, they have done their duty. Union Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman had helped the government by providing the army helicopter on time. He would thank the union minister also, he said.

Memorial construction

The coalition govt would take action to construct the memorial of Ambareesh. There was a demand to build the memorial of Vishnuvardhan in the Kanteerava Studio. It would also be discussed and taken a decision, he said.

Melbourne (PTI): Three Indian students were among 40 people injured in the terrorist attack on Sydney's Bondi Beach in Australia, according to a media report on Tuesday.

Two out of these three students are believed to be receiving treatment in the hospital, The Australia Today news portal reported. 

The names of the Indian students injured during Sunday's attack have not been disclosed yet.

The Indian students sustained injuries during the shooting, and their exact condition has not been formally confirmed yet, it said. 

Naveed Akram, 24, and his father, 50, opened fire on a gathering during the Jewish festival Hanukkah by the Sea celebration.

At least 15 people were killed in the attack, including a 10-year-old child. Five of the injured remain in critical condition, while two injured police officers are in serious but stable condition, it added.

New South Wales Police Commissioner Mal Lanyon said the investigation is expanding as new information emerges, including international travel by the alleged attackers and the discovery of extremist material, the report said.
