Koppal: Medical Education Minister Dr. Sharanprakash Patil has issued a warning against any attempts to tarnish the reputation of the Koppal Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS). The minister, expressing confidence in the institute's efficiency, stated that strict legal action would be taken against those found responsible for defaming KIMS.
During a meeting held on Friday with the directors, department heads, and professors of KIMS, Dr. Patil emphasized that there would be zero tolerance for any irregularities, whether in the appointment of medical and non-medical staff or in the procurement of equipment for the institute. He urged the administrative board members to operate in a manner that would set KIMS as a model for other medical science institutions.
Dr. Patil informed the attendees that the tendering process for upcoming works on the KIMS premises had been completed, and construction would soon begin. He stressed that maintaining quality would be the board's responsibility and instructed members to issue notices to contractors who have compromised on work standards. He further highlighted the importance of assessing the condition of existing buildings before commencing new work to ensure the contractors meet the required quality standards.

Acknowledging the need for improved medical facilities in the region, Dr. Patil emphasized the importance of smooth functioning across all committees formed at KIMS. He also addressed concerns about ragging in medical colleges, urging the panel members to create a safe and fear-free environment for students.
During the meeting, Vishwanath Itagi informed the minister that the state government had approved the filling of 81 vacant posts at KIMS, with 49 positions already filled. Recruitment for the remaining 32 vacancies is still in progress.
The meeting was also attended by MP Rajashekhar Hitnal, MLA K Raghavendra Hitnal, MLC Hemalatha Nayak, Director of the Department of Medical Education Dr. Sujatha Rathod, and Koppal Deputy Commissioner Nalin Atul.

Bengaluru/Vijayanagara, Nov 26: Karnataka Congress MLA H R Gaviyappa on Tuesday urged Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to drop some poll guarantees, citing lack of funds, which drew sharp response from Deputy CM D K Shivakumar.
The ruling party MLA from Vijayanagara suggested that the election guarantees have made it difficult to provide houses to the poor in the state.
“Because of guarantee schemes, there is difficulty in providing houses to poor. We are also asking the Chief Minister to drop two or three schemes, which are not needed. Let’s see what the Chief Minister says,” Gaviyappa said in a public meeting in Vijayanagara.
He, however, maintained that he would stand by the decision taken by the Chief Minister.

According to the Congress MLA, the CM raised Rs 40,000 crore this year keeping development in mind.
The legislator's statement irked Deputy Chief Minister Shivakumar.
“This is Congress party. I am going to issue him a showcause notice. He can’t do that. No question of closing any guarantee. We have committed to the people of Karnataka. No one can raise their voice (against the guarantees),” the Deputy CM, who is also the Congress state president told media in Bengaluru.
He said a Congress MLA cannot speak against the guarantees.
Those who are ineligible will not get the benefit, Shivakumar said adding the same policy has been adopted in the recent revision of BPL cards.
The Karnataka government has decided to remove the government employees and income tax payees from the list of BPL card holders as per the Central government norms.
