Minister Zameer helps rain-hit Alleppey town people
500 quintal rice, 100 quintal sugar sent
Bengaluru, July 31: Food and Civil Supplies Minister Zameer Ahmed Khan sent 500 quintal rice and 100 quintal sugar and other materials to rain-hit Alleppey town in Kerala in his own cost.
Most of parts of Kerala were literally sunk in the water due to heavy downpour. Alappuzha district has been receiving heavy rains. People in Alleppey town are suffering as they have lost their homes due to flood situation. Along with rice and sugar, he also sent sambar powder to prepare food. As the MP of Alappuzha district and Congress incharge in Karnataka KC Venugopal appealed him to sent the food items, Zameer Ahmed had sent the food items in his personal cost on humanitarian ground, Zameer said in a press release.

Five crushed to death after truck ploughs into tent in Kerala
Thrissur (Kerala) (PTI): At least five people, including two children, were killed and as many persons injured when a truck ploughed into the roadside tent where they were sleeping in this central Kerala district early on Tuesday, police said.
The victims, nomads living in tents set up along the highway, were struck by the truck on a national highway in Nattika, under the Valapad police station limits, at 4.30 am, they said.
The injured have been admitted to Thrissur Government Medical College Hospital, with the condition of two individuals reported as serious, police said.
Among the deceased are two children, aged one-and-a-half and four years. Two women were also killed.
The driver and cleaner of the vehicle have been taken into custody, police added.
