Bengaluru, June 4: All the 11 candidates from three major political parties who filed their nomination papers to biennial elections to the Legislative Council from the Assembly were declared elected unopposed on Monday.

Five candidates from BJP, four from Congress and two from JDS were unanimously elected to the Legislative Council, said Election Officer MS Kumaraswamy.

The election was necessitated due to the completion of the tenure of 11 MLCs like BJ Puttaswamy, DS Veeraiah, Somanna Bevinamarad, Raghunath Rao Malkapure, MB Bhanuprakash of BJP, MR Sitaram, Motamma, K Govindaraju, CM Ibrahim of Congress and Syed Mudeer Aga of JDS and independent candidate BS Suresh, on June 17.

Only 11 candidates have filed their nominations for these posts. As no one has withdrawn the papers on the last day of withdrawing the papers, all the 11 contenders were declared elected unopposed, said Kumaraswamy.  K Govindaraju, CM Ibrahim, Aravind Kumar and K Harish from Congress, BM Farooq, SL Dharme Gowda from JDS and S Rudre Gowda, Raghunath Rao Malkapure, Tejaswini Gowda, N Ravi Kumar and KP Nanjundi from BJP were in the fray.

As scheduled, the voting should have been conducted on June 11 from 9 am to 4 pm. As no extra nomination papers were filed for the seats, all papers were found proper during the verification and declared them elected, he said.

Among them, eight members have got certificates. But Tejaswini Gowda, Rudre Gowda and Ravi Kumar have said that they would receive the certificates on Wednesday, he said.

Speaking after receiving the certificate, CM Ibrahim said that he was happy for electing to the Council. Based on the numbers, all of them were elected easily. Otherwise, this election would also have all the strategies and games. It was like a chaste election. If all elections are like these, they would have won them respectfully. He has the confidence of working up to the expectations. It is common to have differences over portfolios. When such differences are common among brothers, this is natural, he said.

Parties had taken three months to form the cabinet in Jammu and Kashmir. But the Congress would find solace even in the differences. Dead body would not have any action. Only the living object would have action. It is the specialty of the Congress to find contentment in the differences, he said.
