Shivamogga: In an incident reported from Kuvempu Road in the city on Wednesday, a monkey snatched a young woman's mobile phone and spent nearly an hour playing with the device, mimicking human behavior, before finally leaving it for a banana.

The young woman, working as a lab technician at Nanjappa Hospital, had kept her phone by an open window when the monkey suddenly grabbed it and climbed a nearby tree.

Onlookers were astonished to see the monkey behaving almost like a human, holding the phone to its chest, staring at the screen, and even pretending to answer a call by placing the device near its ear.

Several people gathered below the tree, trying to lure the monkey with bananas and by repeatedly calling the phone, hoping it would drop the device.

However, the monkey held on tightly and continued playing with it.

The monkey eventually came down onto the hospital’s rooftop after spotting a banana, where local youths frightened it by lighting firecrackers. The monkey dropped the phone, grabbed the banana, and fled the scene.

The mobile phone was later recovered, but it was slightly damaged.
