Belagavi: More than 50 people fell ill after drinking contaminated water in Madenur village of Ramdurga taluk in the district on Wednesday.

Sources said that the affected people have been admitted to the Ramdurga government hospital and to private hospitals.

The pipeline supplying drinking water in the village had cracked. As a result, sewage entered the pipeline and got mixed with the drinking water supplied to homes in the village, causing the mishap, said sources.

The local authorities are learned to have surveyed the situation in the village.
