Koppal: A case has emerged from a village under the jurisdiction of Kanakagiri Police Station, where a seven-month-old infant suffering from health issues succumbed to burn injuries allegedly caused by the mother using an incense stick. The police have filed an FIR against the mother following a complaint from the Child Protection Commission.
According to reports, the infant had been unwell since November 2024, and the family had sought treatment from multiple hospitals. However, doctors at these hospitals noticed burn injuries on the child's body, which raised suspicions. Concerned about the nature of the wounds, they informed the Child Protection Commission regarding possible abuse or negligence.
The matter was later discussed in a district-level infant death review meeting, where officials confirmed that the severity of the burns had led to the infant’s death. The District Health and Family Welfare Officer stated that the injuries were caused by incense sticks, prompting further investigation into the circumstances surrounding the case.
Holding the mother responsible for the child’s death, the Child Protection Unit formally lodged a complaint with the police. Following this, Kanakagiri Police have registered an FIR against the mother.
