Mudigere: In a police operation reported from the taluk, 103 tourists were detained on Saturday for trekking in the Bidirutala forest area of the Western Ghats without official permission.
The police team led by Banakal Sub-inspector Renuka and Baluru Sub-inspector Dileep Kumar reportedly intercepted the group that was trekking in the restricted forest areas in the Charmadi range of the Western Ghats and took the 103 trekkers into custody.
In addition, two tourist buses and two pickup vehicles were seized by the police.
The trekkers are employees of IT companies that are functioning from Bengaluru, sources have said.
Police are investigating further as it is also learned that the trekkers were guided by a local into an area prohibited for the public without the permission of the Forest Department officers, which was a violation of the law.

Davanagere: A bomb threat email received at the District Court in the city’s Devaraj Arasu area on Monday morning triggered panic and a full-scale security check of the court premises.
According to police, the threat message was received on the official email ID of the District Court at around 8.30 am. Following this, the bomb disposal squad and dog squad rushed to the spot and conducted a thorough inspection of the entire court complex.
After detailed checks, officials confirmed that no explosive materials were found and declared the threat to be a hoax.
Police have launched an investigation to trace the origin of the email and identify the sender.
As a preventative measure, security has been tightened at key government offices and important buildings in the city, including the District Court complex.
