Chikmagalur: In an unfortunate incident that occurred on Tuesday night, a decorated tractor that was returning after the Ganapati Visarjan ceremony on the occasion of the Ganesh Chaturthi festival reportedly got hit by electrical wiring resulting in the deaths of three people including two young women at Banakal in Mudigere Taluk.
The deceased have been identified as Raju (45), Rachana (22), and Parvati (28). The remaining 6 people who were in a critical state were admitted to the Mudigere hospital, among whom two identified as Sangeetha and Pallavi had to be transported to a hospital in Hassan due to their deteriorating health, and the driver of the tractor is out of danger, it is learned.
The disastrous incident is said to have occurred at B. Hosahalli village near Banakal in Mudigere Taluk around 11.30 pm on Tuesday. The tractor which had been decorated for Ganapati Visarjan was carrying 10 people. After submerging the idol of the Ganapati deity, the group was returning to their village on the tractor, one of the decorated stands got hit by electrical wiring causing the disaster.
A case has been registered in this regard at the Banakal police station.

Bengaluru: A life convict lodged in Ballari Central Prison has successfully cleared the second PUC examination.
Ashok Kumar S, who appeared for the examination under prison escort, secured 481 marks out of 600, registering 80.1 percent.
Director General of Police (Prisons and Correctional Services), Alok Kumar (IPS), shared the development on his official ‘X’ handle, commending the inmate’s achievement.
In his post, he stated that it was heartening to see a life convict score over 80 percent in the examination, adding that the inmate had appeared from Ballari Central Prison under escort.

He further noted that the achievement reflected that the “walls of the prison have not subdued his hopes for a better future.”

The Karnataka School Examination and Assessment Board (KSEAB) declared the second PUC results for 2026 on April 9.
A total of 6,32,200 students appeared for the examination across all streams, of whom 5,46,698 passed, recording an overall pass percentage of 86.48 per cent.
