A private college in Karnataka’s Mysuru has removed the mandatory uniform dress code amidst the Hijab row in the state, allowing Muslim students to attend classes wearing Hijab. The College has reportedly stated that they want to impart education and not create conflict.
The College has removed mandatory uniform dress code that the students were supposed to be wearing to the college. The decision has come at a time when the Hijab row has become a raging issue in the state.
A delegation of SDPI leaders along with parents of the students met the governing council of the college and held talks with the authorities in this regard. The College after discussing with the delegation has reportedly allowed students to attend classes without uniform starting Monday, February 21.
Speaking to Vartha Bharati, SDPI State President Abdul Majeed welcomed the decision of the college and added that the college’s decision should serve as a model to colleges across the state.
“Some anti-social elements are using religious issues like Hijab row to bring unrest in the society. In times like these, the decision of the college to remove uniform code is a welcome move,” he said.
“There was no compulsion of uniform in this private college, right from the time of Corona and the institution was not following strict uniform dress code in the campus, students were allowed to wear dresses of their choice. However, we have instructed all the colleges to follow and implement the order of Karnataka High Court in this regard” Mysuru DDPU DK Srinivas Murthy has said.
