Bengaluru, Oct 01: Freedom fighter H.S. Doreswamy said that Nathuram Godse who had killed Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi, was an active RSS member.

Inaugurating a seminar on ‘Gandhi within ourselves’ at Central College Senate Hall here on Monday, Doreswamy said that before assassinating Gandhi, Godse had come to Bengaluru. He had reported it in a newspaper. But the RSS people had termed it a false report. Before killing Gandhi, Godse had participated in an RSS programme and was served food at the house of those who had organized the programme. But the RSS had been claiming that it had no relationship with Godse which is a lie, he said.

“I would not say that Gandhi did not make mistake in his young age. Because of young age, he addicted to some bad habits. But later, he had stopped and worked for the country. But our youth have been addicted to various bad habits. But they are not able to come out of them”, he said.

On the line of British Empire, now the foreigners have invested in the country and controlling it. India had experienced under the rule of British for more than two centuries. But today, the same kind of slavery attitude was continuing, he said.

Bengaluru Central University vice chancellor Prof. S. Japhet said that the students should emulate the ideals, lifestyle of Gandhi in life to give a proper tribute to the Father of the Nation. The social problems like unemployment, poverty, communalism and others have been increasing and only Gandhi’s ideology could provide solution to those problems, he said.

Bengaluru Central University Registrar Prof. M. Ramachandra Gowda, Evaluation Registrar Prof. Lingaraja Gandhi and others were present.
